Tennis Bucs drop outings to North Marion and Elkins

ELKINS – The Buckhannon-Upshur boy’s tennis team had a pair of rough outings last week against North Marion and Elkins.

The Bucs dropped a 7-0 outing against North Marion and then lost a 6-1 contest to Elkins with the lone victory being a forfeit at No. 3 doubles.

“North Marion has a fairly strong boys’ team and we struggled against them,” remarked Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Jason Rock. “This match was a wakeup call for our boys. It made them realize that they need to focus on getting better daily in order to be competitive against stronger teams. A bright spot in the match was that it was Jacob Ham’s first match playing varsity singles and he held his own at the No. 4 seed.”

Rock felt his team responded much better two days later against Elkins.

“The team showed up to play this match,” noted Rock. “Every single match was competitive, and hard fought. I am proud of the way the boys played, unfortunately, Elkins did not have a three doubles team, so we won that by forfeit.”

Their outing with John Marshall on Saturday was postponed by the weather.

The boys were slated to play University on Monday and will visit Lewis County Tuesday.
