Stockert Youth and Community Center Board Meeting Agenda: January 2, 2025

Upshur County’s Sept. 21-27 sports calendar features football, soccer, golf, volleyball, cross country, swimming and tennis. Buckhannon-Upshur and West Virginia Wesleyan teams compete throughout the week, with no events Sunday.

Buckhannon-Upshur’s Athletic Hall of Fame will induct five standout athletes and the 1993 state champion boys soccer team Oct. 3. The Class of 2026 will also be honored at halftime of the Oct. 2 football game.

Sunbeams & Moonshine Creations will showcase custom-fit permanent jewelry at the WV Hive booth during Bridge Day on October 17. Visitors can meet owner Erica Williams and five other local entrepreneurs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Buckhannon officials are seeking help to keep the Stockert Youth and Community Center basketball program running in 2026 following director Debora Brockleman’s retirement. They hope to have a plan put together by October 1.

In a wild fourth quarter, Wesleyan churned through a 19-play drive, struck for a 79-yard touchdown on fourth-and-two and pounced on a kickoff fumble. The Bobcats held off West Virginia State, 28-23, through a game packed with late drama.

WVU Medicine St. Joseph’s Hospital and Buckhannon Upshur Rotary will offer $35 blood screenings by appointment Oct. 10-31 in Buckhannon and Nov. 7 in Rock Cave. Optional tests are available, and participants must fast for 12 hours.
