Stella Black

Stella Black, 88, of Buckhannon, W.Va., died Wednesday, September 23, 2020, at home.

She was born February 18, 1932, in Beans Mill, W.Va., a daughter of the late Clarence Junior and Lessie Maude Westfall Tenney.

On April 8, 1950, she married Lawrence Black who preceded her in death. In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by one sister, Vonnie Lou McCartney Burr and five brothers, Vacel Harold, Delbert Lorenza, Garnett Ray, Earnest Okey and Herbert Junior Tenney.

She is survived by three daughters, Janice Marie Lake and husband Harold of Medway, Ohio, Sandra Jean Day and husband Rev. Wease of Sago, W.Va. and Billie Arlene Davidson and husband John R. of Buckhannon; three sons, Richard Allen Black and wife Diana of French Creek, W.Va., Freddie Keith Black and wife Virginia R. and Teddie William Black and wife Carol J. all of Buckhannon; six grandsons, Jamie Black, Eric Black and Areta all of French Creek, Jason Lake and fiancée, Ashley of Xenia, Ohio, Wesley Day and Lisa, Jeremy Davidson and wife Paige, and Samuel Black all of Buckhannon; six granddaughters, Paula Stebbins and husband Justin of Morrow, Ohio, Rachel Smarr and husband James of French Creek, Wendy Day and husband Kyle, Jenny Tenney and husband Patrick, Emily Black and fiancée Zack and Keyarra and Lauren Black all of Buckhannon; three great-grandsons, David Smarr of French Creek, Josiah Simmons of Buckhannon and Brayden Stebbins of Ohio; ten great-granddaughters, Victoria Black and fiancée, Corey and Elizabeth Black all of Glenville, W.Va. and Alexandria, Taylor and Lyndsey Black, Orianna and Zyra Simmons, Emma Rose and Lila Faith Tenney and Ellyana Day all of Buckhannon; one great-great-grandson, Xavier of Glenville; two sisters, Dianna Loraine McCartney and husband Richard of French Creek and Lora Demandes Hamner of Tallmansville, W.Va.; one brother, Roger James Tenney and wife Teresa of French Creek and two sisters-in-law, Jan Tenney of Warren, Ohio and Mary Black Tenney of Buckhannon.

Mrs. Black was a homemaker. She attended the Sago Baptist Church and she liked gardening, sewing, canning, fishing and the simple things in life, like a good cup of coffee.

Friends will be received Monday, September 28, 2020 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Wease L. Day officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Tallmansville, W.Va.
