St. Joseph’s Hospital hosts B-UHS students to explore healthcare careers

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. — St. Joseph’s Hospital hosted junior and senior students from Buckhannon-Upshur High School for an exploration of a variety of healthcare careers.

Students visited departments in the hospital including the laboratory, imaging, pulmonary, dietetics, security, physical therapy and human resources. They were provided with hands-on demonstrations and had the opportunity to speak with staff about their various roles within the hospital.  They were also given a behind-the-scenes tour of an Operating Room and shown how the instruments and equipment are sterilized.

“Exploring Healthcare Careers Day was an opportunity to allow students to explore healthcare professions they may not have known existed in a hospital or clinic setting,” said Angela Heavner, Senior Physician and Staff Recruiter. “These are careers available here in Upshur County.  We look forward to continuing this program with Upshur County students.”
