St. Joseph’s Hospital doctor praises Rotary’s discounted blood screenings, outlines expanding radiology services

BUCKHANNON — A doctor from St. Joseph’s Hospital thanked the local Rotary club for offering discounted blood screenings and highlighted the hospital’s new radiology offerings.

Dr. Victoria Strick of WVU Medicine St. Joseph’s Hospital attended the Sept. 16 Rotary Club of Buckhannon-Upshur meeting to stress the importance of Rotary’s discounted-cost blood screenings.

“First and foremost, we’re so thankful you guys offer the screenings. This is the only way a lot of people can afford it, and it’s super invaluable to look at the panels for all of our patients who have heart conditions,” Strick said. “We need to be checking what their kidneys and livers are doing. The Rotary screening is one of the most common things we hear about every year.”

The next Rotary blood screenings will take place on Oct. 4, Oct. 11, Oct. 18 and Nov. 1 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, by appointment only. Register online here.

“We’ve had several people sign up already,” Strick said. “I know that you guys are adding some labs — vitamin D and testosterone tests. Vitamin D, especially in the Midwest, is pretty deficient in almost everybody, unless people can take a vitamin D supplement.”

Strick also informed the club about St. Joseph’s Hospital’s new CT machines.

“We now have a PET CT that comes every other Friday, so radiology services are expanding,” Strick said. “In 2026, we’ll have a new CT scanner capable of performing CT coronary imaging on the heart, and we’re also hoping to begin offering low-dose CTs, which can help with blood cancer screenings. By expanding radiology, we’ll be able to make Buckhannon a healthier community.”

Rotary also announced an additional blood screening on November 8 at Community Care of Rock Cave.

Basic blood profile tests will be offered for $35, with additional tests available: thyroid function for $5, hemoglobin A1C for $15, colon cancer screening for $5, prostate testing for $20, and a hepatitis C antibody test for $20.
