Monday, September 7

• The City of Buckhannon is observing the Labor Day holiday today. All city offices, including the Transfer Station, are closed in recognition of the contributions of the community’s workforce. Waste collection services will operate on a one-day delay for the week.

Tuesday, September 8

• Downtown Decorating Committee Meeting, 5:30-6:30 p.m. — Attend in person. No virtual option is available for this meeting.

Thursday, September 10

• Water Board Meeting, 7:30-8:30 a.m. — Attend in person, join virtually or call 872-240-3212. Access code: 234-619-757.

Friday, September 11

• Bulky Goods Collection begins at 5:30 a.m. Bulky goods collection is for large items such as couches, chairs, mattresses and appliances. All Buckhannon Waste Department customers are allowed four items per month and eight tires per year. Residents must call by Wednesday, September 9, to schedule a pickup, and items must be at the curb by 5:30 a.m. Friday to ensure pickup.

In the CAC Gallery (located in the Colonial Arts Center)

• The Vital Actants exhibit runs through Saturday, September 26. The two-person exhibition features work by Alicia Thompson and Crystal Ann Brown. The gallery will host an artist talk and reception on Friday, September 25, from 5-7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Gallery hours are Fridays and Saturdays from 4-8 p.m.
• Preparing for the BOOOOckhannon Exhibition: The drop-off date and time for artwork submissions from the local community for the 3rd Annual BOOOOckhannon Exhibition will be Sunday, September 27, from noon to 3 p.m. at the CAC Gallery.
• The 3rd Annual BOOOOckhannon Exhibition will be on display beginning Friday, October 2. The gallery will host an artist reception on Friday, October 30, from 5-7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Gallery hours are Fridays and Saturdays from 4-8 p.m.

• Thursday, September 10 — Upshur County Firefighters Association proposed county fire fee increase discussion, 7 p.m. Joe Carrico, vice president of the association, will lead a question-and-answer session to address concerns from the public.
• Saturday, September 19 — Central WV Friends of the NRA, 5 p.m. The NRA’s annual dinner features games, auctions and a chance to win NRA guns, gear, décor and collectibles. Click here for more information.

• Buckhannon Source Water Protection Plan meeting: The public is invited to join representatives of the City of Buckhannon Water Department for the Source Water Protection Plan public meeting on September 10 at 1 p.m. in the Public Safety Complex Training Room, 22 S. Florida St. in Buckhannon. Attendees can learn how the city protects Buckhannon’s drinking water and share their input. All community members are welcome to attend.
• Buckhannon is waiving all building and wiring permit fees for verified flood-related repair and restoration work. Permits will still be required to ensure safety and compliance, but any project confirmed as flood-related will receive a full fee waiver. Building Code Enforcement Officer Vincent Smith will inspect each project to verify eligibility.
• FEMA’s Disaster Recovery Center in Upshur County: FEMA is operating a Disaster Recovery Center in Upshur County to provide in-person support for individuals and families seeking federal disaster aid following the recent flooding. The center is on the second floor of the Upshur County Development Authority at 21 E. Main St., Buckhannon, and is open Monday through Saturday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. FEMA personnel are available on site to help residents apply for federal disaster assistance, ask questions about available programs and submit required documentation for Individual Assistance and related support. Residents who experienced damage or loss in the recent flood are strongly encouraged to visit the center as soon as possible. Meeting directly with FEMA staff can help ensure applications are completed accurately and processed without delay. Individuals may also apply online at DisasterAssistance.gov using Disaster Number DR-4932, or by calling the FEMA Helpline at 1-800-621-3362.
• Flood relief financial donation options: The City of Buckhannon and the Upshur County Commission have identified two official organizations for those wishing to make financial contributions to support local flood-recovery efforts. Contributions may be made online to the Rotary Club of Buckhannon Upshur Foundation or Tygart Valley United Way.
• Trash can placement: Trash cans must be hidden from public view as much as possible during the week. Place them at the curb the night before collection and return them within 24 hours after collection.
• Utility bill payments: Pay utility bills online through Municipal Online Payments or by phone at 1-866-933-4026. Setting up an account allows customers to monitor consumption.
• Report repairs or concerns: To report issues such as potholes or damaged signs, call City Hall during business hours to submit a work order or use the city’s Citizen Engagement tool.
