Softball Lady ‘Cats drop two to Glenville State

Game 1

In a matchup that showcased solid offense and pitching, Glenville State emerged victorious with a 5-1 win over West Virginia Wesleyan. The game, marked by key moments in the middle innings, saw the Pioneers break through with a strong offensive surge.

The first significant play came in the second inning when West Virginia Wesleyan’s Gracey Arnold crossed the plate after a double from Rhiannon Godley, giving the Bobcats an early 1-0 lead.

The Pioneers capitalized on a big fifth inning, beginning with a two-run homer from Makenna Negley, bringing in Delaney Warnick. The blast put Glenville State on top, 2-1. But the inning wasn’t over yet. Kylee Goodman followed up with a solo homer to increase the lead to 3-1. Later in the inning, Monica Rodelo singled, bringing in Emma McLean to make it 4-1. In the seventh, Goodman was able to advance to third base on a passed ball. Warnick, who had already reached base, scored an unearned run, extending Glenville State’s advantage to 5-1.

Kelsi Brown, who took the loss, pitched 4.2 innings, allowing four earned runs on seven hits. Despite some strong individual performances, including a double by Gracey Arnold and a solid 2-for-4 showing by Lynzee Hague, the Bobcats couldn’t slug over the Pioneers.
