Softball Lady Bucs go 1-3 over three-day stretch

TENNERTON – The Buckhannon-Upshur softball Lady Bucs went 1-3 over a three-day period from Thursday to Saturday.

On Thursday, they dropped a 6-5 home decision to North Marion but rebounded on the road Friday to defeat Preston by a 10-4 score. On Saturday, they dropped a road doubleheader to John Marshall by 9-1 and 11-0 scores.

Against North Marion, the Lady Bucs took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a ground out RBI by Taylor Spratt and Alyssa Abel scored on a passed ball.

North Marion tied the game with a pair of runs in the top of the second, but B-U answered with three runs in the bottom of the third.

Jensen Kimble hit a one-run single bringing home Kynnedy Marple and later scored on a North Marion error and Abel scored on a wild pitch, That treated the Lady Bucs a 5-2 advantage.

North Marion won the game with a four-run outburst in the top of the sixth inning,

The Lady Bucs had eight hits with Abel getting three and Marple two.

Kimble suffered the loss, going six innings and allowing four earned runs on seven hits while striking out six.

Against Preston, the Lady Bucs found themselves down by a 4-1 score after three innings of play.

They made it 4-2 in the top of the fourth on a one-run single by Avery Hamer then erupted for six runs in the top of the fifth for an 8-4 advantage.

Able hit a one-run single, Spratt hit a two-run single, Becca Pastorius hit a two-run single, and Reese Curry hit on a one-run single to account for the scoring.

The Lady Bucs tacked on an insurance run in both the sixth and seventh innings for the six-run win.

Marple and Abel led the 14-hit attack with three hits apiece.

Pastorius picked up the win in a complete-game effort. She gave up three earned runs on six hits while walking just one and fanning six.

Things didn’t go well for the Lady Bucs in their Saturday doubleheader with John Marshall scoring only one run in the two games.

The Lady Bucs managed just five hits in the opener and collected just two in the second game.

The action left the Lady Bucs with a 2-5 record.

They were slated to play Grafton on Monday and will return to action Wednesday hosting Robert C. Byrd.
