Soccer Lady ‘Cats get blanked by No. 18 West Virginia State, 4-0

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. — The West Virginia Wesleyan (4-10-1, 4-8-1) women’s soccer team fell at home versus unbeaten West Virginia State (14-0-1, 12-0-1) on Wednesday (Oct. 19) evening at Buckhannon-Upshur High School Stadium.

West Virginia State wasted no time in getting on the scoreboard. Karem Rodrigues scored her second goal of the season in the seventh minute. Brooklyn Pritt was credited with the assist on the goal. WVSU scored its second goal of the game at the 29-minute mark after Pritt lofted a pass to Sandra Linares, who finished putting the ball into the back of the net. The Yellow Jackets struck again just before intermission when Paula Herold scored off of a set piece that gave WVSU a commanding 3-0 lead at the break.

The Yellow Jackets padded their lead in the 57th minute when Herold scored her second goal of the evening after Alba Close threaded the needle with a beautiful pass that left an opening for Herold.  That was all the Yellow Jackets needed to post their 14th win of the season and remain undefeated. With the win, WVSU secured the MEC South crown.

WVWC women’s soccer returns to the pitch on Sunday (Oct. 23) for a road match at West Liberty. Kickoff is at 1 p.m.
