Soccer Lady ‘Cats end year with 4-0 win over Davis & Elkins

BUCKHANNON — The West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcats season finale against visiting Davis and Elkins College wrapped with a 4-0 win for Wesleyan Wednesday evening.

Iris Jimenez got the Lady Bobcats on the board early, scoring an unassisted goal in the third minute to set the stage for continued dominant play.

In the 38th minute, Maggie Queen put Wesleyan up 2-0 on a finish from a set play. Ellie Pergolotti curled a beauty from the right edge 35 yards out to a group of onrushing Bobcats in the box. Queen touched the ball once then struck it past Senator keeper Lindsay Poplin just outside the six-yard stripe.

Into the second half, the Lady Bobcats’ next two goals came in quick succession. Beth Burchett took an assist by Amelia Sage in the 79th minute and dribbled 40 yards to put away the shot. A minute later, Laura Martinez took an assist from Tessa Grisez on a drive down the right flank to find herself 1-v-1 with keeper Poplin.

The Lady Bobcats end the season 4-13-1 overall and 2-12-1 in the conference.
