BUCKHANNON — West Virginia Wesleyan College women’s soccer program picked up a much-needed win at home against Glenville State, 1-0, Sunday.
Wesleyan’s game-winner in the 80th minute came in an unusual fashion.
Glenville’s keeper Mikayla Brown shuffled a goal kick toward one of her own players 30 yards but the ball bounced backwards to the waiting foot of Beth Burchett who one-timed a shot off Pioneer defender Mackenzie Hendricks’ leg and the ball ricocheted into the net, far post.
The win was the Lady Bobcats’ first conference victory of the season (3-13-1, 1-12-1) with one game left on the schedule. Wesleyan hosts Davis and Elkins College for the season finale, Wednesday Nov. 1 at 4 p.m.
