Soccer Lady Bucs roll past Martinsburg, 11-1

TENNERTON – It is rare that Buckhannon-Upshur girls’ soccer team plays on a Friday night.

First-year Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Jason Piacente might schedule more Friday night games after the result he got from the Lady Bucs’ outing with the visiting Martinsburg Bulldogs as they won an 11-1 decision in game called in the 72nd minute on the new 10-goal mercy rule implemented this season.

The Lady Bucs scored early and often getting four goals in the first 13 minutes as they raced out to a 9-0 lead at the half.

Harley Dean started the scoring with a goal just three minutes in with the assist going to Mallory Hughes.

Four minutes later, Hannah Boyles scored an unassisted goal and then four more minutes after that, Haley Triplett tallied an unassisted goal giving the Lady Bucs a 3-0 lead.

Dean came back to score two goals within a five-minute span with Kyleigh Keener getting the assist on both to make it a 5-0 advantage in favor of B-U.

Molly Radabaugh and Rylen Carlyle scored goals within a minute of each other to up the B-U lead to 7-0 as Sidney Hollen had the assist on both goals.

Grace Queen found the back of the net in the 31st minute with an unassisted goal and NinaMae Coberly put in an unassisted goal to wrap up the first half scoring making it 9-0.

Martinsburg scored their lone goal coming out of the half with a Rylee DeLone score in the 42nd minute.

B-U ended the game as Allison Andrew tallied an unassisted goal in the 71st minute and Rosie Shackleford scored a minute later with the assist going to Isabella Rexroad.

“We played well and it was the type of game in which we were able to give a lot of time to our bench players,” stated Piacente.

The Lady Bucs held a 16-1 margin in shots-on-goal and a 2-0 advantage in corner kicks.

It was a very clean game penalty wise as B-U was called for just one foul while Martinsburg was guilty of three.

B-U keeper Kyndal Davis made one save while Martinsburg goalie Sydney Wert made five saves.

The win was the third in a row for the Lady Bucs and improved their record to 3-2.

They will be back in action Tuesday hosting North Marion at 6 p.m.
