Soccer Lady Bucs blank Preston 3-0 in road conference outing

KINGWOOD – The final score of 3-0 in favor of the Buckhannon-Upshur soccer Lady Bucs over the Preston Knights really didn’t reflect just how one-sided the game was in favor of the Lady Bucs.

In the Big 10 Conference outing at Kingwood Thursday evening, the Lady Bucs didn’t allow Preston a shot-on-goal or a corner kick as most of the action occurred in Preston’s end.

“We possessed the ball about the whole game,” noted Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Jason Piacente. “We did a great job of controlling the ball and a great job with our passing game, but we just need to work on trying to get higher percentage shots and finding the back of the net.”

The lone goal of the first half belonged to Hannah Boyles, who did find the back of the net in the 25th minute of the game with the assist going to Mallory Hughes.

The teammates traded places on B-U’s second goal with Hughes getting the score while Boyles was credited with the assist giving the Lady Bucs a 2-0 advantage.

Harley Dean wrapped up the scoring with a goal in the 61st minute with the assist going to Haley Triplett.

Following the Dean goal, Piacente substituted his bench into the game the final 19 minutes.

The Lady Bucs had 13 shots-on-goal and owned four corner kicks.

Buckhannon-Upshur was guilty of just two fouls while Preston was called for six.

B-U keeper Kyndal Davis didn’t have to make a save as she didn’t see a shot while Preston keeper Kadence Whitehair made 10 saves.

Preston dropped to 0-2 in the Big 10 and 1-4 overall.

The win improved the Lady Bucs to 2-0 in the Big 10 and 2-2 overall,

They will have little time to rest as they return to the pitch Friday hosting Martinsburg in a non-conference game at 5 p.m.
