Soccer Lady Bobcats suffer 5-0 loss to Yellow Jackets

INSTITUTE — West Virginia State University scored four goals in 26 minutes and went on to defeat West Virginia Wesleyan 5-0, Sunday in Mountain East Conference action.

The Yellow Jackets (2-1-2, 2-0-1) got its offense from several players including Sandra Linares at 9:38 (assists to Avril Amil Ruiz and Ellise Rennie), Linares at 15:30 (assists to Karissa Vela and Kinga Koronkiewicz), Ellise Rennie at 18:03 (assist to Alba Closa), and Leila Karam at 26:19 (assist to Ammy Mwasambu). State’s Aika Tobaru logged her team’s only unassisted goal in the 80 minute to wrap up the day’s scoring.

The Lady Bobcats were outshot 33-5 and out-cornered 8-1. Uniquely, there were no penalties recorded in the game.

Wesleyan (1-4-0, 0-3-0) hosts Glenville State (3-2-0, 1-2-0) Wednesday, Sept. 25 for a 7 p.m. kickoff at Culpepper Stadium.
