Soccer Bucs fail to score in 4-0 road setback to Wheeling Park

WHEELING – The Buckhannon-Upshur soccer Bucs again failed to get their offense going again in a 4-0 road setback to Wheeling Park Thursday evening in non-conference action.

It was the third time the Bucs have been shutout in their first four games as they dropped to 0-3-1 on the season.

On the other side, Tresz McLeod tallied a hat trick for Wheeling Park in the first half, staking the Patriots to a 3-0 lead at the intermission.

Brody Wall added a late goal for the Patriots for their 4-0 win.

“Tonight definitely wasn’t an easy task in trying to slow down McLeod along with the other talent Wheeling Park has,” noted Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Mike Donato. “I was pleased with how we started; slowing down their attack and creating quality chances for ourselves. In the second half we were able to shut down McLeod and force their attack from elsewhere and that gave us some opportunities we just couldn’t capitalize on. We still have a lot of things to clean up before we jump back into conference play on Tuesday but the guys have been putting in the work in practice and working through the adjustments.”

The Bucs were outshot by a 17-4 margin and trailed in corner kicks by a 7-0 margin.

B-U was guilty of four fouls while Wheeling Park was called for 10.

Dalton Auvil made 15 saves in net for the Bucs while Slaton Kowalkoski made two saves. Wheeling Park keeper Gavin Border stopped four shots.

The Bucs will be back in action Tuesday at home when they host Lincoln at 5:30 p.m.
