I am Sherry Dean, and I am running for re-election to the Upshur County Board of Education. I worked for the Upshur County Board of Education for more than 37 years in many different roles.

In 1976, I became a bus operator, and in 1985 I enrolled in WVWC. I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Education in December 1988. In January 1989, I was hired as a substitute teacher. I drove bus for 22 years and taught for seven of those years. In 1996, I became the Supervisor of Transportation. I retired from Upshur County Schools in 2013. Later, I worked for RESA 1 for approximately three years. After leaving that position, I became a substitute and consultant for the Transportation Supervisor.

I have four children, two boys and two girls. Three graduated from BUHS, and my stepson graduated from Lewis County. My daughters are RNs, and my sons work in Upshur County. I have seven grandchildren; two of my grandchildren are enrolled in Upshur County Schools, and one grandson is enrolled at WVWC. I’m a member of the Way of Holiness Church, where I teach Women’s Bible Study. I am vested in Upshur County!

My goal is to move our students forward, preparing them for their future; our students deserve the highest quality education possible. Our schools need to show improvement in academics, and in order to do this, we must have certified teachers in the classroom as well as support from the administration. We must make education a priority. We as a Board need to be proactive and future-focused. We must move forward and make our schools one of the top 10 in the state.

This will take hard work, time and dedication from our Board, administration, staff, students and parents. In order for us to succeed, we must work together.
