Two $500 scholarships are available to BUHS seniors who attended Union Elementary School for at least three of their six elementary school years. Both require a minimum 3.0 GPA, an essay on how Union Elementary shaped their education, community involvement, leadership and future plans, and three letters of reference. Completed applications should be returned to B-UHS Student Services by May 1.

The Union Elementary College Scholarship goes to a student accepted to a four-year college for the 2026-2027 school year. The Union Elementary Technical/Vocational Scholarship goes to a student accepted into a technical or vocational program for the same period.

Walt Crossett Visual Arts Scholarship — due May 8

The Walt Crossett Visual Arts Scholarship awards $500 to a graduating senior pursuing a visual arts degree at a four-year college or university. The scholarship was founded in 2015 in honor of Walt Crossett, who spent 30 years teaching art at Buckhannon-Upshur High School.

Applications ask for art experiences and achievements, school and community involvement in the arts, and goals for pursuing the degree. Submit a paper copy or email to Mrs. Elaine Gum at eashman@k12.wv.us by Friday, May 8.
