Seven new COVID-19 cases reported in Upshur County on Sunday

Upshur County saw its largest single-day increase in COVID-19 cases on Sunday, with seven new cases reported by the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources — six confirmed and one probable.

Fifteen cases are currently active, also a new high for the county. Just one month ago, Upshur had a total of four confirmed cases; now it has 30.

Free testing was offered locally on Friday and Saturday, and 771 people attended at the two Upshur County locations, according to the DHHR. Those results are expected by mid-week.

Overall, the DHHR announced Sunday that 96 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the Mountain State.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of 5 p.m., on July 12, 2020, there have been 207,595 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 4,244 total cases and 96 deaths,” according to a press release.

New cases were reported Sunday in Berkeley, Brooke, Cabell, Fayette, Grant, Hancock, Hardy, Harrison, Jefferson, Kanawha, Lewis, Logan, Marion, Marshall, Mineral, Mingo, Monongalia, Ohio, Preston, Putnam, Raleigh, Randolph, Upshur, Wetzel and Wood counties.

About 1,329 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 2,819 people have recovered and 96 have died.
