Secretary of State announces regional winners in West Virginia’s first ‘I Voted!’ sticker contest

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – Secretary of State Kris Warner has announced four regional winners in West Virginia’s first-ever “I Voted!” Sticker Contest, and the public can now vote to select the statewide winner.

More than 1,100 eighth grade students from across the state submitted hand-drawn artwork for the contest, which was launched in December. Students submitted designs to their county clerk, who assembled a panel of judges to select a county winner. County winners were then placed into one of four regions, and a selection committee chose one regional winner from each.

The four regional winners are:

  • Region 1: Mackenzie Blizzard, Trinity Christian School, Monongalia County
  • Region 2: Anabella Piccolomini, Shepherdstown Middle School, Jefferson County
  • Region 3: Ellie Stover, Ripley Middle School, Jackson County
  • Region 4: Reese Childers, Shady Spring Middle School, Raleigh County

“The participation in our first-ever sticker contest was fantastic,” said Secretary Warner. “More than 1,100 students from all over the state submitted hand-drawn designs. Selecting the county and regional winners was not an easy task.”

Public voting is now open on the Secretary of State’s website. All West Virginia citizens, regardless of age, are eligible to vote, with voting limited to one vote per email address. Voting runs through 4:30 p.m. on Friday, February 27.

The winning design will be used as the official “I Voted!” sticker given to in-person voters in the statewide winner’s home county during the May Primary Election.

“I want to extend an invitation for all West Virginians to participate in the contest and to vote for their favorite design,” Warner said.

The statewide winner will be announced on March 11 during the National Civics Learning Week program hosted by the WV Civics Coalition at the State Capitol.
