Ruth G. Sutherland

Ruth G. Sutherland, 83, of French Creek, W.Va., departed this life on Saturday, February 6, 2021, at Good Samarian Nursing Home in Belington, W.Va., under the care of Mountain Hospice.

She was born on May 27, 1937 in Upshur County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Clark Theodore and Zela Nettie Sponaugle.

She married Orval Junior Brown of Frenchton, W.Va. on January 28, 1954 in Buckhannon, W.Va. who preceded her in death. She then married James Oscar Wilson on Rock Cave, W.Va., on November 5, 1971, who preceded her in death. She then married Miles Andrew Sutherland of Buckhannon, W.Va. on March 12, 1979 who preceded her in death.

Mrs. Sutherland is survived by four children, Juanita Jeffries and husband Joe of Buckhannon, Cathy Dean and husband Clair of Buckhannon, two sons, Charles Brown of Rensselaer, Ind., Nikolas Everhart (Donnie Wilson) and wife Teri of Fairfield, Ohio and one daughter-in-law, Sharon Brown of Ohio preceded her in death; two sons, Basil Brown and Harold Brown; one son-in-law, Larry Ray William; one daughter-in-law, Carol McAtee; her grandchildren who she loved very much Bonita Lantz of Buckhannon, Bill Williams and wife Mindy of Okla., Steve Williams and wife Christian of Shepherdstown, W.Va., Bobby Williams and fiancé, Nicole Shipley of Kesling Mill, W.Va., Joey Jeffries of Buckhannon, Crystal Reed and husband Thad Reed of Buckhannon, Michael Zinn and fiancé Angie Good of Martinsburg, W.Va., Angie Butcher and husband Ray of Buckhannon; seventeen grandchildren, Corey Lantz of Chicago, Ill., Kaitlin and Callie Lantz of Buckhannon, Kelsey and Jacob Riggleman of Buckhannon and Ally Reed of Buckhannon, Brycen Zinn of Elkins, W.Va., Beau and Beare Williams of Hartshorne, Okla., Jared, Tyler, Hailey, Hannah Williams all of Shepherdstown, Dylan and Dominick Williams of Buckhannon, Colton and Jordan Jeffries of Buckhannon; seven step great-grandchildren, Renee Thompson, Jocelyn Bevans, Taylor Baxa all of Buckhannon and Stephanie (Zinn) Reeves of Marietta, Ohio, Ethan, Jared, Jashira Neel all of Bridgeport, W.Va. and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by six brothers, Troy, Leonard, Willard, Maynard, James, Clayton Sponaugle; three sisters, Mona (Kate) Crabtree, Lorain Caliendo, Callie Delphia Nickerson; one surviving sister, Mamie Tenney of French Creek, W.Va.

Ruth was a homemaker, cleaned houses, worked in restaurants. She loved spending time with her family and friends. She loved to make crafts and building things and she loved music and going to church.

Friends will be received Saturday, February 20, 2021 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. William Kerns officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Lebanon Church Cemetery in Buckhannon.
