Roger Lynn Tolliver

Roger Lynn Tolliver, age 69, passed away at his home on January 26, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. Roger was born on January 28, 1955, to the late Irvon and Elma (Gregory) Tolliver.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years Ruth Campbell Tolliver; daughter, Lori (Tolliver) Cooke and husband Brian; son, Bradley Tolliver and wife Elizabeth; three granddaughters, who he adored, Kaylee Cooke and Hannah and Abigail Tolliver; father-in-law, Clyde Campbell; one brother, Terry (Pam) Tolliver; three sisters, Linda Matheny, Maxine (Howard) Johnson, and Donna (Ron) Jeffco; sisters-in-law, Brenda and Alice Tolliver and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers Danny, David, and Kenneth Tolliver. Roger worked for nine years for the Department of Highways then retired as a school bus operator after 28 years with the Upshur County Board of Education. He loved hunting with his son and son-in-law, spending time at his camp, and spending time with “Pappy’s Girls.” He also enjoyed spending time with his many special friends.

In his final act of service, Roger donated his body to the human gift registry at WVU.

Friends will be received for a memorial gathering Friday, January 31, 2025, from 4 PM to 6 PM at the Rock Cave Baptist Church in Rock Cave, WV. A memorial service will begin at 6 PM with Pastors Terry Tolliver and David Jessie officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Rock Cave Baptist Church, St. Andrews Baptist Church in Dillwyn, VA or WV Hospice.

New mural to celebrate local history

The Upshur County Commission has signed a contract with artist Tom Acosta for a new mural on the county maintenance building near Main Street. Backed in part by a $5,000 state tourism grant, the $11,500 project is expected to be completed by May 1.
