Families and caregivers urged to be aware of hot vehicle deaths

Vehicular heatstroke is the leading non-crash vehicle-related killer of U.S. children 14 and younger, with more than 1,000 deaths since 1998. WV’s Highway Safety Program and NHTSA urge caregivers to “Stop, Look, Lock” and never leave kids in cars.

Gerald Milnes of Elkins honored as National Heritage Fellow

Gerald “Gerry” Milnes of Elkins has been named a 2026 NEA National Heritage Fellow, the nation’s top honor in folk and traditional arts, receiving the Bess Lomax Hawes fellowship for his lifelong work documenting Appalachian culture.
