ReFashion Show seeks contestants for annual event

Amateur models and designers from across West Virginia are invited to showcase their unique outfits made from recyclable materials during the 22nd annual ReFashion Show. Sponsored by the Recycling Coalition of West Virginia, this year’s event is set for 3 p.m. on November 23 near Macy’s inside the Huntington Mall.

ReFashion Show outfits can be crafted from a variety of materials, including newspaper, aluminum cans, cardboard, plastic water bottles, paper products and other waste products typically destined for recycling centers or landfills.

The show is open to all ages. Participants are categorized into two age groups: 13 and under, and 14 and over, based on the designer’s age, not the model’s. Themed categories include the Shopping Challenge, Newspaper Challenge, Cosplay Comic-Con and General.

Winners in each age category receive $500 for first place, $250 for second and $125 for third. Winners of the themed categories receive a $100 gift card.

Registration takes place on the day of the event, beginning at noon. Models under 18 must have parental consent. For a ReFashion Show release form or more information, call 304-414-1122 or visit www.wvrecycles.org

Supporting sponsors of the Recycling Coalition include Goodwill Industries, Huntington Mall, West Virginia Cashin’ Recyclables, West Virginia Solid Waste Management Board, West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection, West Virginia Beverage Association and the solid waste authorities of Harrison, Lincoln, Braxton, Tyler, Cabell, Brooke, Putnam, Taylor, Kanawha, Wetzel, Upshur, Ohio, Roane, Jackson, Marshall and Wood counties.

The Recycling Coalition of West Virginia is a nonprofit environmental organization dedicated to promoting the effective and sustainable reduction, reuse and recycling of materials typically destined for disposal. The coalition strives to achieve its goals by encouraging the purchase of products made from recycled materials, coordinating and facilitating recycling activities, and fostering communication among organizations, government agencies and individuals through the sharing of ideas and resources.
