BUCKHANNON – Dezi Pugh won three individual events to pace the Buckhannon-Upshur High School girl’s track team to a second-place finish in their season-opening meet at Doddridge County last Friday.

Pugh claimed gold in the 200-meter dash (27.62), 400-meter dash (1:02.03) and 300-meter hurdles (49.51). She set a meet record in the 300 hurdles, blasting nearly a full second off the old mark of 50.44 set 20 years ago by Jennie Spencer of Doddridge County.

In the distance events, B-U sophomore Samantha Shreve placed first in both the mile (5:44.73) and two-mile (12:17.36) while anchoring the second-place 4×800 relay (11:15.13), where she was joined by Miah Reger, Jessica Williams and Lydia Falkenstein.

The Lady Bucs also picked up two wins in the field events, with Chloe Cale winning the long jump with a leap of 15-10.5 and Catherine Neely claiming gold in the discus with a throw of 105-07. Cale also had a strong showing on the track, finishing third in the 100-meter hurdles (17.74) and 300-meter hurdles (53.47).

In addition to the 4×800, two other B-U relays picked up silver medals – the 4×200 squad (2:05.47) of Allie Frye, Kaydence Monti, Kyleigh Keener and Chloe Blonn, and the shuttle hurdle (1:23.86) quartet of Haley White, Abigail Hurst, Reger and Frye.

Overall, the Lady Bucs finished second with 135 points, behind only the host Doddridge County. North Marion, Fairmont Senior, Philip Barbour, Moorefield, Lewis County, South Harrison, Wood County Christian and Gilmer County rounded out the 10-team meet.
