PSA: Planned power outage in some areas of Upshur scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. Thursday

BUCKHANNON – A planned power outage in Upshur County will affect several streets and roads beginning Thursday evening.

Mon Power notified customers that a planned power outage is scheduled from 10 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 3, to 6 a.m. Friday, Aug. 4. The affected streets include Brushy Fork Road, Buckhannon Crossroads, Main Street, Glady Fork Road, Kanawha Street, Spring Street and Widow Lane.

According to the notice, the outage is necessary for the power company to upgrade its facilities.

Director of the Upshur County Homeland Security and Emergency Management Steve Wykoff said the planned improvements to equipment and facilities for those areas should increase the reliability of services.

“People should be prepared and have flashlights nearby, ensure their cellphones are charged, and ensure any batteries in alarm clocks are good,” Wykoff said. “Our emergency services have contingency plans in the event of a power outage. Continuity of emergency services will not be affected during this planned power outage.”

Buckhannon’s Walmart posted on Facebook they would be closing at 9 p.m. Aug. 3 due to the outage. They will reopen at 6 a.m. Aug. 4.
