Photos: Lady Cats top Davis & Elkins in home opener

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. — The West Virginia Wesleyan (1-1-0) women’s soccer team utilized two first half goals and kept a clean sheet against Davis & Elkins (0-2-0) in a 2-0 victory at Ross Field on Sunday (March 14).

“It feels good to get back into the win column,” head coach Richard Owens said. “We worked hard and deserved this win today.”

Chrystal Posada sent the ball toward the D&E goalkeeper in the seventh minute that was juggled to end up in the back of the net for the first Lady Bobcat goal of the season.

“I think we set the tone all week in practice,” Posada said. “The game plan was to come out strong and we did. I’m really proud of the team and we didn’t let up.”

During the 28th minute, Natalia Roppolo was fouled by Roxanne McFarlin to set up a penalty kick for WVWC. Natalie Pireu was selected to take the PK for Wesleyan and she promptly knocked it into the back of the net as the home team took a commanding 2-0 lead.

The wind increased in the second half and score remained the same. Makatlyn Tucker kept the pressure on and fired off a couple of shots on goal. Ally Moore recorded two saves in goal for the Lady Bobcats.

Wesleyan women’s soccer’s next scheduled contest is on the road at Notre Dame (Ohio) on Sunday, March 21 at 2:30 p.m.
