Parish House now accepting donations to fill Easter boxes

BUCKHANNON – The Upshur Parish House is now accepting donations for Easter food boxes.

Kristi Wilkerson, director of the Upshur Parish House and Crosslines, said this will be the first time they have offered Easter boxes and they will be available to any Upshur County family in need. Each box will be comprised of meat and traditional Easter dinner side dishes.

“Our Christmas food basket distribution increased by 15 percent a couple of months ago,” Wilkerson said. “It is so important that our Upshur County neighbors have the food resources they need, and they are able to fully celebrate the Easter holiday. We truly appreciate the churches, individuals, civic organizations, businesses and others who contribute to our special holiday food box program each year.”

“They are helping us fight food insecurity and they are making a difference in our community,” Wilkerson added. “Because of their generosity, we are able to add Easter this year, which is very exciting.”

The Parish House will continue accepting donations until March 22 and they are still hoping to receive donations of instant mashed potatoes or boxed scalloped potatoes, cans of green beans, and boxes of brownie mix, cookie mix, or cake mix. Items may be delivered to the Parish House any weekday morning. Wilkerson said people who cannot make direct deliveries due to COVID-19 may place orders from Walmart, Amazon, Target or another store and have them delivered to Upshur Parish House, 68 College Avenue, Buckhannon, WV 26201.

Those looking to make a financial contribution may also mail them to the same address.

Distribution will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 27, and Monday through Wednesday, March 29 to 31 at the Upshur Parish House, 68 College Avenue.

“Any questions can be directed to the Parish House and Crosslines at 304-472-0743,” Wilkerson said. “Please note that we will be closed in observance of Easter on April 1 and 2, 2021, which is Holy Thursday and Good Friday.
