Over 100 locations to participate in West Virginia’s Largest Yard Sale, Aug. 5-6

BUCKHANNON – Attention yard sale enthusiasts: West Virginia’s Largest Yard Sale is set to take place August 5 and 6 in Upshur and Lewis counties.

This is not a joke – Over 100 local residents and businesses are already registered to participate in this two-county bargain sale. Plan your yard sale travel itinerary with help from the West Virginia’s Largest Yard Sale Online Map here.

Laura Meadows, Director of the Upshur County Convention and Visitors Bureau, explained that with each yard sale, visitors and residents of Upshur County can become fully immersed in the small town charm of Buckhannon. While in the thick of these little neighborhoods, Meadow believes visitors can truly appreciate why Buckhannon is unique and home to so many.

Upshur County CVB Bargain Hunting Tips & Tricks:

  • Comfortable Walking Shoes – One of the great things about West Virginia’s Largest Yard Sale is that you get to see our beautiful neighborhoods, and many times you’ll find a long stretch of Yard Sales along one street. But you do have to walk between Yard Sales, so plan to dress comfortably!
  • Water, Water and more Water – The weather is always spectacular and sunny during West Virginia’s Largest Yard Sale, so stay hydrated & enjoy! Sunscreen, sunglasses & hats are a good idea, too.
  • Shopping Bags – Most of the individual Yard Sales will have bags available for you after you’ve purchased a few items; But it’s a good idea to bring a reusable bag, just in case.
  • Cash & Change – It sounds obvious, but remember to bring pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters and plenty of ‘small’ bills to purchase your bargain!

“A lot of people are taking advantage of local restaurants and shops, especially if it’s hot,” Meadows said. “You’ll need somewhere to cool down [during your yard sale shopping experience].”

Also, make sure to grab your camera before hitting the road in search for the yard sale signs. While visitors travel from one yard sale to another, country roads can lead them to the hidden gems of Upshur and Lewis counties. Restaurants, shops, hiking trails, bodies of water, historical locations and more are waiting for the arrival of curious visitors while encouraging local residents to revisit their favorite spots.

While visitors explore Upshur County, Buckhannon welcomes all to attend the weekly Festival Friday festivities at Jawbone Park. Jawbone Park is located on Madison Street in Buckhannon. Live music from local artists are featured each Friday evening from 4:30 p.m. to 8:00 pm. Bring a chair or blanket to enjoy this family-friendly event with free music, vendors with handmade items, locally grown produce, and other great items are ready to go home with guests. These items could be a small token to remember their time in the hills of Upshur County during the West Virginia’s Largest Yard Sale weekend.
