Orthopedic care coming to the Cowen Clinic in Webster County

Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon Walt Boardwine, DO

Webster County, WV – Webster Memorial Hospital is excited to announce the upcoming opening of its Orthopedic Outreach Clinic at The Cowen Clinic in March. This initiative will provide residents of Webster and surrounding counties with convenient access to expert orthopedic care, addressing one of the unique needs of the rural community.

On March 15, Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon Walt Boardwine, DO, will see scheduled patients for orthopedic conditions like osteoarthritis, cubital tunnel syndrome, lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow), medial epicondylitis (golfer’s or baseball elbow), carpal tunnel syndrome, ligament injuries of the knee (torn meniscus), trigger finger, and orthopedic conditions of the knees, hips, shoulders, wrists, arms, legs, elbows, fingers, and lower extremities. He will also see pre-operative and post-operative patients who have had orthopedic surgery in Elkins.

Dr. Boardwine received his medical degree from the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in Lewisburg.  He completed his residency and clinical preceptorships in hand surgery, total joint arthroplasty, and geriatric medicine at Grandview Hospital in Dayton, OH.

He has practiced orthopedic medicine for more than 35 years, joining Davis Medical Center in Elkins in 2015.  He is board-certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Orthopedic Surgeons and is a diplomat of the National Board of Examiners for Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons of USA.

Dr. Boardwine is part of the Tygarts Valley Orthopedics and Sports Medicine (TVOSM) team. TVOSM earned the Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for Hip and Knee Replacement. As a result, TVOSM has the highest quality, consistency and safety ratings for their services and patient outcomes.

Although Boardwine is a native of Fayette County, growing up he spent time in Webster County.

“The fishing was great,” he said. “I’d come with my family and we would stay in a house in the mountains near Burgoo. I spent a lot of time fishing the Elk River.”

The Cowen Clinic is located at 70 Technology Lane in Cowen. It offers family care, and physical therapy and rehab.  It also houses Davis Medical Center specialty clinics including podiatry/foot and ankle care, women’s health services and now, orthopedic care.

“We recognize the challenges of accessing specialized care in our area,” said Webster Memorial Hospital CEO Bill Dempsey.  “We have been working to expand what we have closer to home for Webster County residents, and we’re excited about Dr. Boardwine.  He is a great fit for our community and an exceptional orthopedic surgeon.”
