HODGESVILLE — One person was killed in a fatal single-vehicle wreck early Monday morning.
According to a press release issued by the Upshur County Sheriff’s Office, at about 7:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 15, deputies responded to a single-vehicle wreck on Route 20 North near the Barbour County line.
Deputies believe the vehicle had been traveling north on Route 20 when it “left the roadway, struck a tree and came to a rest over an embankment,” the release says. The victim was discovered a short distance from the vehicle; the sheriff’s office is not releasing the person’s name pending notification of family members.
Drug and alcohol use is suspected, the release says, and the body has been sent to the West Virginia Medical Examiner’s Office in Charleston.
The wreck remains under investigation, and anyone with information is asked to call Deputy Cole Bender at 304-472-1182.
