One new COVID-19 case reported in Upshur County on Tuesday, four deaths announced statewide

One new case of COVID-19 was reported in Upshur County on Tuesday, the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources announced in their daily update.

Upshur County currently has two active cases.

Four additional deaths have also been attributed to the disease statewide, according to the DHHR – a 90-year old male from Logan County, an 80-year old male from Raleigh County, a 74-year old male from Raleigh County, and an 86-year old male from Kanawha County.

“We mourn the heartbreaking loss of these West Virginians and send our deepest sympathies to their loved ones,” said Bill J. Crouch, DHHR Cabinet Secretary, in a press release.

According to the DHHR, a total of 99 new cases of COVID-19 were identified Tuesday in the Mountain State.

“The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources reports as of 10 a.m. on August 18, 2020, there have been 365,551 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 8,731 total cases and 164 deaths,” according to a press release.

New cases were reported Tuesday in Berkeley, Boone, Brooke, Cabell, Fayette, Hampshire, Hardy, Jackson, Jefferson, Kanawha, Lincoln, Logan, Marion, Mason, Mercer, Mineral, Mingo, Monongalia, Ohio, Preston, Putnam, Raleigh, Randolph, Taylor, Upshur, Webster and Wood counties.

About 1,830 West Virginia cases remain active, according DHHR data. Of the cases that are no longer active, 6,737 people have recovered and 164 have died. The daily percent positive was 2.19%.
