The City of Buckhannon has announced its Thanksgiving holiday schedule and a slate of community events for the coming weeks.

Thanksgiving holiday schedule
Thursday, November 27 — Thanksgiving Day. All City of Buckhannon offices, including the Transfer Station, will be closed. No waste collection.
Friday, November 28 — Thanksgiving Friday. All City of Buckhannon offices, including the Transfer Station, will be closed. Waste collection will run as scheduled.
Saturday, November 29 — The Transfer Station will be closed.
Dates to remember
The following events have been scheduled with the city’s Consolidated Public Works Board:
- November 27 — Upshur County Recreational Complex 5K, beginning in Jawbone Park at 7:30 a.m.
- December 5 — Buckhannon Fire Department Christmas Parade down Main Street at 6 p.m. Santa Claus will visit the Buckhannon Fire Department following the parade.
- December 14 — Annual Menorah Lighting in Jawbone Park at 7 p.m.
Coming to the Colonial Arts Center
Now through December 13 — The CAC Gallery at the Colonial Arts Center is hosting “Luminescence,” a solo exhibition by Sikara Sokel. The gallery is open 4 to 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Sokel is a contemporary painter from Harpers Ferry, W.Va., and a 2024 graduate of Shepherd University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. She primarily works in oil, reimagining traditional portraiture through vibrancy, light and color.

Reminders
To help keep Buckhannon’s streets attractive, residents are asked to:
- Keep leaves out of the street, as they can block stormwater drains and cause flooding. When mowing, always blow grass away from the street.
- Keep trash cans hidden from public view as much as possible during the week. Place cans at the curb the night before collection and return them within 24 hours after collection.
Utility payments and reporting concerns
Residents can pay utility bills online at Municipal Online Payments or by phone at 1-866-933-4026. Setting up an account allows users to monitor consumption.
To report issues such as potholes or damaged signs, call City Hall during business hours to submit a work order or use the Citizen Engagement tool: Report a Concern.
