BUCKHANNON – The Little General Store on the Old Weston Road officially opened its doors Wednesday.

The new location was christened with an official Buckhannon-Upshur Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting Feb. 22. Chris Rose, director of operations for Little General Stores, said the opening of the new Buckhannon location marks the chain’s 115th store.

“We’ve been growing in the central and northern part of the state for some time now, and we had an opportunity to grow in Buckhannon and thought it was a good fit,” Rose said. “We were able to add video lottery gaming at that location, so that was another attraction for us.”

The store will include video lottery machines and a drive-thru.

“That’s going to be the big one for us in this area, having the drive-thru, so people will be able to come right off this road and pop right back onto the road when they’re done,” Rose said. “They have a drive-thru window right behind the counter, so any of the folks working in the store will be able to grab whatever you need and give it to you out the window.”

The drive-thru may be utilized to purchase any of the items sold in the store.

“It is convenient — that’s the name of the game,” Rose said. “It’s a convenience store, and it is very convenient. It’s a one-stop shop, and you don’t even have to get out of your car, but you can come in the big building, and we have the video lottery for anybody interested in that as well.”

The store will also be open 24/7.

“That’s something we try to do with any of our locations, so we have business around the clock,” Rose said. “We will not have fuel at this location, but I never say never.”

The Little General Store chain has been in West Virginia for several decades.

“We are a convenience store chain that’s been around since 1976,” Rose said. “Our current owners have owned it since 1999, and we’ve been around pretty much the whole state. We’ll have snacks and beverages at this location and beer and wine, so it’s a little bit of a one-stop shop for people in the area.”
