New Glenville roundabout open to traffic

CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The Glenville Roundabout is now open to traffic.

The roundabout, located at the intersection of US 33 with College Street and Mineral Road, was officially dedicated at a ceremony today, and will provide a new entrance to Glenville State College and the Town of Glenville.

“This roundabout will make access to Glenville State so much easier. But not only that, it’ll help all kinds of people be able to get in and out of the community so much easier and so much simpler,” Gov. Jim Justice said. “I want to thank all those that made this project happen.”

The roundabout eases congestion at the intersection, where College Street and Mineral Road previously approached US 33 at sharp angles. The roundabout design was chosen as the best solution to improving traffic flow in the area, because it will provide smoother access to both the town of Glenville and Glenville State College.

“This is just the fifth roundabout in the state, and it’s been much-anticipated by the community of Glenville and the college as well,” said West Virginia Transportation Secretary Byrd White.

Campus officials intend to build a sign near the roundabout identifying it as an entrance for the college.

Funding for the $5.07 million project was a combination of federal money and Roads To Prosperity funding. Construction began in November 2019.

Mountaineer Contractors Inc. from Kingwood was the contractor for the project.
