Mountaineer Food Bank receives support from DTE Energy

Mountaineer Food Bank has received a $25,000 donation from the DTE Energy Foundation to aid efforts to provide food for West Virginians in need.

Last week, DTE Volunteers and Mountaineer Food Bank staff worked together to bag 600 Supper Sacks that would be distributed to children statewide. The backpacks included two recipes, to encourage home cooking and family engagement, and nutritional food products like peanut butter and canned chicken.

“It was fantastic to have the DTE team on site providing hands-on assistance, especially with our backpack programs,” said Mountaineer Food Bank Director Chad Morrison. “The wonderful donation they made will go a long way in providing West Virginians in need with food to eat through our many programs.”

DTE volunteers spent the morning assisting the Mountaineer Food Bank before DTE’s Steve Rawlings presented the $25,000 check to Mountaineer Food Bank on behalf of the DTE Energy Foundation.

Early this week, DTE Energy’s Marshall Simpson and Clayton Edens attended the 12th Annual Governor’s One-Shot Hunt, which aids the efforts of the Hunters Helping the Hungry Program.

The Hunter Helping the Hungry Program provides thousands of pounds of donated venison to needy family across the state every year. Once the venison has been packaged, it will be picked up by either Mountaineer Food Bank or Hunger Food Bank and distributed to a network of 600 charitable organizations throughout the state.
