Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital receives CMS 5-Star Overall Hospital Quality star rating

WESTON, WV (June 25, 2021) – Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital (SJMH) is proud to be awarded a Five-Star Overall Hospital Quality Star Rating for 2021 from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). SJMH is one of only two hospitals in West Virginia to receive this designation.

Of the more than 3,000 hospitals measured, only 455 hospitals achieved a five-star rating. Hospitals are rated by CMS on a scale of one to five stars, with five being the highest and three being the most common.

“Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital is extremely honored to be recognized as a five-star rated facility by CMS,” Jennifer Barnes, Quality Director at SJMH said. “This recognition allows patients and families to understand that when they come to our facility, they are receiving care at a safe, patient-centered hospital. Our low harm scores and high patient satisfaction scores are something we are very proud of.”

The hospital rating is based on data measuring five aspects of quality of care including mortality, safety of care, readmission, patient experience and timely and effective care as reported by CMS’ Hospital Compare tool. Medicare developed its Star Rating system to give people with Medicare an objective measure of a plan’s performance. The rating system gives people a way to consider quality as well as cost as they make their enrollment decisions.

Other recent awards for SJMH include a Spring 2021 Hospital Safety “A” Grade by the Leapfrog Group which Mon Health Medical Center also received and being named a National Top 100 Safety Net Hospital by the Lowns Group. Mon Health Heart & Vascular is also West Virginia’s leader in cardiovascular care as the first and only hospital in West Virginia to earn an Atrial Fibrillation (AFib) Accreditation and first hospital in the region to offer the leading-edge WATCHMAN FLX device for AFib treatment.

Mon Health Medical Center has also been awarded with a 4-Star Overall Hospital Quality Star Rating by CMS. Mon Health Medical Center has been recognized by U.S. News & World Report’s Best Hospitals 2020-21 as High Performing in Heart Failure and is the only regional hospital and 24th in the country to receive HeartCARE Center Designation by the American College of Cardiology. They have also been named a Center of Excellence in Robotic Surgery.
