Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital honors Kevin Stalnaker amidst retirement

Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital extends its heartfelt gratitude to Kevin Stalnaker, Chief Administrative Officer, for over 12 years of service as he announces his retirement at the end of the calendar year.

During his tenure, Stalnaker is the only individual to serve as Administrator for both Lewis County hospitals—Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital and William R. Sharpe Jr. Hospital. He was honored as the 2021 Lewis County Chamber Businessman of the Year, recognizing excellence in the local business community. In 2022, he completed Leadership West Virginia, which led him to assist in founding Leadership Lewis in 2023. For his dedicated service to the community, Stalnaker was named the 2024 Weston Democrat Citizen of the Year.

Stalnaker helped lead the hospital through its transition into the Mon Health System in 2017 and Vandalia Health System in 2022. He also championed the return of oncology services to Lewis County, which recently passed its 11-year mark. He has grown the Lewis County local 5K runs from one to as many as 12 per year and expanded the Physical Therapy department to a state-of-the-art off-campus facility. These milestones allowed the hospital to further expand the care it provides to patients in Lewis, Gilmer, Braxton and Upshur counties, and beyond, offering more specialized, advanced care and treatments for a wider range of health conditions.

While intending to slow down and spend time with his wife Christy and family, Stalnaker, a Certified Public Accountant, is pursuing a new, self-employed business venture. He is also pursuing a Master of Business Administration degree at West Virginia Wesleyan College and plans to volunteer with local groups.

“Before joining Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital in 2012, I had always wanted to continue to grow my career by joining different organizations,” said Stalnaker. “To look back and see that I was able to retire from this hospital with over 12 years of service is something for which I am immensely proud. I am excited to introduce my successor into the local community to support our region for years to come. I want to thank the local community and the hospital for all of the support over the years.”

Upon Stalnaker’s retirement in January, Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital has appointed Lisa Songer as the hospital’s Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer effective January 10, 2025. Songer brings a wealth of experience with over 20 years of service at Charleston Area Medical Center. Her extensive career includes several leadership roles, including Associate Administrator for CAMC’s Surgical Service Line, Interim Chief Nursing Officer, Critical Care Director and key roles in managing various Intensive Care Units and Medical Emergency Teams.

“We are deeply grateful to Kevin for his many years of dedicated service to Vandalia Health Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital and the broader Lewis County Community,” said David Goldberg, President and CEO of Mon Health System and Davis Health System – Vandalia Health North, and Executive Vice President of Vandalia Health. “His leadership and commitment have left a lasting impact and we cannot thank him enough for all he has done.

“Kevin is the best and brightest cheerleader for Lewis County health and well-being, for the community and his beloved family. I will miss him but am happy he is pursuing opportunities to bring balance and broaden his impact. As we wish Kevin the best in his well-deserved retirement, we are excited to welcome Lisa Songer to the team. We are confident that her experience and passion will continue to drive our mission forward in serving our communities with excellence.”
