Melanie Renee McGhee

Melanie Renee McGhee, age 63, passed away at home, surrounded by her loving family, on May 15, 2024.

A native of Buckhannon, she was born on October 1, 1960, to Franklin “Forrest” Stalnaker and Patty Strader Stalnaker. She was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” McGhee on September 18, 1998, and they remained together until his death in December of 2015. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her nephew, Adam Landis, and her parents Forrest and Patty.

Melanie is survived by her two sisters: Saundra Hill, and Melinda Curry and husband Ken all of Bridgeport; her partner Duane “Dewey” Christenson; her three devoted children: Zachary Christenson and wife Kristina of Stuttgart, Germany, Brianna Kinder and husband Brandon of Toledo, OH, and Chad Christenson of Chesapeake, VA; five rambunctious grandchildren: Elias Kinder, Theodore, Augustus, Evelyn, and Archer Christenson.

Melanie had a passion for entertainment in all forms. She enjoyed the beach and vacationing. Most importantly, Melanie loved spending time with her friends, family, and her faithful and steadfast dog, Jake. Melanie dedicated over 35 years of service to others as a nurse at William R. Sharpe Jr. Hospital. She was a strong advocate for women’s rights and a passionate humanitarian. While her decades of devotion as an RN impacted many lives in her community, Melanie firmly believed that her single greatest accomplishment was raising her children to be compassionate, kind, and empathetic human beings who contribute to the betterment of society.

The body will be cremated. A private celebration of life will be held to honor Melanie.

Online condolences may be extended to the McGhee family at www.heavnerandcutright.com. The McGhee family entrusted Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel and Cremation Service with the arrangements.
