BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — The Mountain East Conference announced its 2025 football schedule on Wednesday afternoon.
The MEC will play an eight-game conference schedule over the final nine dates allowed by the NCAA calendar, with all teams featuring four home games and four away games. Each program will play up to an additional three games against non-conference competition. The MEC will also pursue Thursday night and Saturday night opportunities, with announcements of those changes coming at a later date.
The MEC’s 2024 schedule included a pair of Thursday night contests: Sept. 19 when Glenville State traveled to Fairmont State; and Oct. 24, when Wheeling played at Frostburg State.
The University of Charleston captured the 2024 MEC Championship after navigating the nine-game conference schedule unscathed, finishing 11-1 overall and 9-0 in league play. UC entered the Division II Football Playoffs ranked No. 6 nationally and seeded second in Super Region One after winning 10 games by double figures during the regular season.
Golden Eagles running back Chavon Wright made national headlines after being selected for the AFCA Division II Coaches’ All-America team and D2 CCA All-America squad. Wright rushed for 2,235 yards and an NCAA Division II-record 38 rushing touchdowns, and was named a finalist for the Harlon Hill Trophy, which honors the Division II College Football Player of the Year. This month, Wright was named the prestigious Hardman Award winner as the Top Amateur Athlete in the state, as voted by the West Virginia Sports Writers Association.
Glenville State finished second at 7-4 overall and 7-2 in MEC play, followed by a two-way tie between Fairmont State and UNC Pembroke for third and another two-day tie with West Virginia State and Wheeling in fifth.
MEC football action is scheduled to get underway in Week 3 (Saturday, Sept. 20).
Institutions will release complete schedules including non-conference opponents and game times when available.
