TENNERTON – The Buckhannon-Upshur Lady Bucs had two players selected to the 2022-23 WVSA Class AAAA Girls’ Basketball Team that was voted on by the state’s sports writers.

Senior forward/center Kendall Currence and junior guard Kenna Maxwell were named the Honorable Mention Team.

Both players were named to the Big 10 Conference First Team last week.

Maxwell led the team in scoring with 12.3 points per game while also leading the team in assists (61) and three-point field goals made (44).

Currence was third on the team in scoring averaging 8.3 points per game and was second on the squad in rebounding with 4.2 per game. She led the team in blocks with 20.

The Lady Bucs of head coach Rob Kittle finished the year with a 13-12 record advancing to the regional tournament.

Sophomore Alexis Bordas of Wheeling Park was named the captain of the First Team while Greenbrier East senior Cadence Stewart was named the captain of the Second Team.

WVWC Spirit Award renamed Alisa Suttle Spirit Award

West Virginia Wesleyan College has renamed its long-running Spirit Award the Alisa Suttle Spirit Award, honoring the 1992 founder who retired June 1 after 39 years of service. Two students from each class receive the award annually, with eight Bobcats recognized this year.
