Mary “Bert” Dean

Mary “Bert” Dean, age 83, of Buckhannon, WV, died Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at WVU Medicine United Hospital Center in Bridgeport, WV.

She was born December 3, 1941, in Buckhannon, a daughter of the late Alpha and Elsie Moats Zickefoose.

Surviving are four daughters Darlene Turner and husband Joe of Buckhannon, Debra Tenney and husband Edd of French Creek, WV, Twila Wight and husband Steve of Ozark, AL, and Robin Tenney and husband Randy of Buckhannon; one brother, Leon Zickefoose of Hackers Creek, WV; eight grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; two cats Smokey and Frankie.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Danny Dean; daughter Connie Dean; four brothers, Richard “Dickie” Zickefoose, Cavin Zickefoose, George “Joe” Zickefoose, and Ted Zickefoose; five sisters Lemoyne Page, Oleta Collins, Glendoline “Glenny” Pringle, Vivian Gayzelle Hammack, and Margaret Orsburn.

She loved her two cats, Smokey and Frankie, puzzle books, watching the game show network and Young and The Restless, playing on her phone, reading her bible and listening to gospel music. She loved spending time with her family and friends. She was also a member of Sand Run Baptist Church.

Friends will be received Monday, November 10, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Sand Run Baptist Church. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM at the Church with Rev. Wease L. Day and Rev. Chad Lewis officiating. Burial will follow in Sand Run Baptist Cemetery in Excelsior, WV.
