TENNERTON — Buckhannon-Upshur High School’s Athletic Hall of Fame will welcome its newest class of Buccaneer greats during the 23rd annual induction banquet, set for Saturday, Oct. 3, at 6 p.m. in the high school commons.
The Hall of Fame Class of 2026, as announced by the Hall of Fame committee, includes Todd Baisden, Tanner McGrew, Courtney Miller-Wheeling, Maggie Miller, Donnie Mriscin and the 1993 boys state champion soccer team.
The five individuals and one team will also be recognized the night before, during halftime of B-U’s home football game against Fairmont Senior on Friday, Oct. 2.
Tickets for the banquet may be purchased by contacting committee chair Mida Peterson at 681-495-2245, athletic director Taylor Stacy at 304-472-3720, ext. 5019, or by visiting the B-U athletic department office at the high school. Only a limited number of tickets will be sold at the door, so attendees are encouraged to purchase in advance. Tickets will be $20 per person.
Todd Baisden (Class of 1999) — Football, Baseball
Baisden was a four-year baseball player and three-year starter, appearing in 96 games. A two-time first-team NCAC selection, he helped lead the Buccaneers to their most recent state tournament appearance in 1999. He finished his career with 17 home runs, 100 RBIs, 43 stolen bases and a .416 batting average.
Tanner McGrew (Class of 2011) — Basketball
McGrew played four seasons of basketball and was a two-year starter before walking on at West Virginia Wesleyan under then-head coach Patrick Beilein. He developed into one of Division II’s premier players, earning first-team All-MEC honors in 2015, All-American honorable mention, third-team Academic All-American and another first-team All-MEC nod while leading the nation in rebounding in 2016. Now in his 11th year as a professional, McGrew has played in seven countries as well as the NBA G League and NBA Summer League.
Courtney Miller-Wheeling (Class of 2012) — Swimming, Track and Field
Miller-Wheeling was a three-time state champion in the 100-yard backstroke, setting state records in both 2011 and 2012. A four-time West Virginia All-Tournament team member, she earned four varsity letters, four All-Region honors and was named the 2011 Big 10 Conference Swimmer of the Year. She holds or held school records in the 100 back, 200 IM and multiple relay events. She swam collegiately at West Virginia University and was also part of B-U’s 2010 girls track and field state championship team.
Maggie Miller (Class of 2015) — Swimming
Miller captured three state titles in the 100 backstroke and two more in the 50 and 100 freestyle. A three-time NISCA Speedo High School All-American and four-time WV All-Tournament team member, she still holds the school record in the 100 back and previously held marks in the 100 free, 50 free, 200 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 500 free and multiple relay events. She also set state records in the 100 back, 100 fly and 100 free. Miller was a four-year varsity letterwinner, two-year captain and later a three-year letterwinner at WVU.
Donnie Mriscin (Class of 2001) — Soccer
Mriscin was a four-year standout in the midfield and attack, finishing his career with 65 goals and 45 assists. He ranks fourth all-time in scoring at B-U and remains the program’s career assist leader. As a senior, he was named WVHSSCA Forward of the Year, earned first-team All-State honors and played in the North-South All-Star match. He was second-team All-State as a junior and honorable mention as a sophomore. Mriscin continued his career at California (Pa.) University and later coached boys travel soccer.
1993 Boys Soccer Team — State Champions
The 1993 Buccaneers captured the West Virginia state championship and NCAC title, outscoring opponents 105–27 with 11 shutouts. Under head coach Tom Habrouck, the roster featured eight All-State selections, including five first-team honorees, along with Player of the Year Tyler Feola, Defender of the Year Jamie Samargo and Goalkeeper of the Year Roger Queen.
