MAY – Amanda Landis

Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital (SJMH) announces that Amanda Landis has been named the May 2019 Employee of the Month.  Amanda started work at SJMH in January 2018 as the staff educator.

Amanda is an Upshur County native and graduate of Buckhannon-Upshur High School.  Her parents are the late Mike Perry and Jeanie Perry of Buckhannon. She and her husband, Ben, have two children – Haley, 17, and Dylan, 14.

Amanda received her LPN training at the Fred Eberle Technical School in Buckhannon.  She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Mountain State University.

Her nominator wrote, “Since Amanda took over staff development she has become an ACLS instruction, implemented and maintained the staff development platform for all of SJMH. She goes out of her way to help others and is always a pleasure to be around and always has a smile.

Amanda is pleased to receive this honor and said, “I enjoy educating and learning which makes this the perfect job for me. I especially enjoyed the Stonewall Academy students, which is a shadowing program for seventh and eight graders at the Middle School.”

Her supervisor noted, “Amanda is the staff educator which involves orientation, net learning, nursing classes, ACLS, CPR, etc. She took on the Stonewall Academy and did a superb job.  She has inherited the Health Ambassadors program as well as guiding interns, students, etc.  She also attends job fairs on behalf of SJMH.”

In her spare time, Amanda and her family enjoy camping, kayaking, and enjoying the outdoors.

JUNE – Susan Carpenter

Cardiac Rehabilitation’s Susan Carpenter has been selected as Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital Employee of the Month for June 2019. She began employment at the Hospital in 1999 in the Physical Therapy Department.

She and her husband, Kevin, live on Sauls Run Road with their canine companions – two Jack Russells named Butchie and Scrappy, and Si, the Rottweiler.  Susan has one daughter, Melissa Leavitt, of Weston, who is a private home health caregiver.

Susan is originally from Ohio, the daughter of Ethel and the late John Snyder, of Wooster. Her father was originally from Weston and Susan came to this area because of the family connection.

Susan’s nominator wrote: “Susan is a hard worker who provides excellent care to every patient, every time.  She is kind, professional, compassionate and goes above and beyond when caring for our stress test patients and out-patient rehab clients.”

Physical Therapy Director Matt DeGarmo noted, “Susan is an excellent team member and would be a fantastic choice for this honor.”

Susan was pleased with the nomination and noted, “Thank you for nominating me for employee of the month.  It was a nice surprise and I am grateful.  I have always believed that the people you work with are what make the job worthwhile.  I have co-workers here who make each day a new adventure.  It is nice to come to work each day.  I feel so fortunate to have a job that I thoroughly enjoy.”

In her spare time she enjoys nature and being outdoors.  Boating at Stonewall Lake with her family is especially nice.
