Lady ‘Cats tumble to West Liberty, 88-47

WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – The West Virginia Wesleyan (0-3, 0-3) women’s basketball team dropped a road game to West Liberty (4-2, 3-0) on Wednesday (Nov. 30) night in West Liberty, W.Va.

WVWC Leaders
Courtney Wilfong had a team-leading seven points. Emma Witt and Shelby Genes each added six points. Alani Murray brought down a team-leading six rebounds. Electra Allembert was a force on the inside defensively blocking four shots.

Inside the First Half
The Hilltoppers began the game on an 8-0 scoring run. Genes got Wesleyan on the scoreboard with a pull-up jumper at the 7:49 mark in the first quarter and the Lady Bobcats trailed 8-2. Akalah Jackson, Witt, and Murray all had two points in the first quarter and the Lady Bobcats trailed 26-8. Courtney Wilfong scored five points in the second quarter and Wesleyan trailed at halftime 52-22.

Inside the Second Half
West Liberty began the second half much like the first, taking the first nine points of the half and led 61-22. A layup from Witt got the Lady Bobcats on the board in the second half with 6:24 remaining in the third quarter WVWC trailed 61-24. Genes completed a four-point play with 3:32 left in the third quarter and the Bobcats trailed 65-30. West Liberty kept their balanced attack going throughout the rest of the game before winning, 88-47.

Up Next
WVWC will return home to host Wheeling in the Rockefeller Center at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday (Dec. 3).
