Lady ‘Cats lose 102-65 road decision to ABU

PHILLIPI, W.VA – The West Virginia Wesleyan (2-5, 1-4) women’s basketball team fell to Alderson Broaddus (4-4, 2-3) on Wednesday night by a 102-65 score at Rex Pyles Arena.
 
WVWC Leaders
Three Lady Bobcats scored above the 10-point mark. Courtney Wilfong led the way with 16 points and added two steals. Electra Allembert tossed in 13 points and hauled in five offensive rebounds. Symphonie Bryant-Brown scored 11 points and distributed four assists.
 
Alderson Broaddus Leaders
Two AB players finished with more than 25 points. Taylor Isaac had a game-high 28 points while her teammate Nyshae’ Weaver dropped 27 points. Isaac converted eight shots beyond the arc. Jaya Nelson secured 10 rebounds on the glass and added 15 points.
 
Inside the First Half
Wilfong drained a triple early on to give Wesleyan a 5-2 lead. Cierra Tolbert delivered a Fastbreak jumper to put WVWC up 7-4. The Battlers scored 10 consecutive points to take a 14-7 lead at the first media timeout. AB led 26-16 at the end of the first quarter.
 
Two made free throws by Wilfong and a fastbreak layup from Kamryn Williamson concluded a four-point scoring run in the second quarter for the Bobcats. Wesleyan trailed by 15 points after one half of play.
 
Inside the Second Half
WVWC produced an 8-0 scoring run that included four made free throws from Allembert, and layups from Ariana Harmon and Bryant-Brown to trim the deficit to 12 points in the third quarter. AB extended their lead to 19 points at the end of the third quarter. The Battlers outscored WVWC 34-16 in the final quarter of play.
