Lady Bucs finish Holiday Hoop Fest with win over South Allegheny, remain perfect at 6-0

CALIFORNIA (Pa.) – The Buckhannon-Upshur Lady Bucs made it a clean sweep in the 2021 Holiday Hoop Fest at California (Pa.) University with a 56-41 victory over South Allegheny (Pa.) Wednesday afternoon.

The victory came a day after they beat West Greene (Pa) by a 51-27 score.

The Lady Bucs were originally scheduled to play Pittsburg Allderdice but they had COVID-19 issues and South Allegheny was the replacement team that filled in for them.

The win left the Lady Bucs perfect on the year at 6-0.

While Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Rob Kittle will take the win, he probably won’t be having multiple viewings of the game film.

“It was sort of an ugly game but a win is a win,” noted Kittle. “We found a way to battle and win. We were definitely tired playing back to back games. We just need to learn from the experience and get better at battling through tired legs and minds.”

With Gabby Parke scoring six points, the Lady Bucs took a 13-5 lead at the end of one quarter.

South Allegheny closed their deficit down to just two points at the break, at 26-24.

Alyssa Abel scored six points, Shelby McDaniels five and Olivia Ellis one in the third quarter as the Lady Bucs won the stanza by a 12-7 margin pushing their lead back to seven heading into the fourth quarter going up by a 38-31 advantage.

Buckhannon-Upshur never let South Allegheny back into the game in the fourth quarter winning it by an 18-10 margin.

Kenna Maxwell had six points in the final quarter while Kendal Currence had five.

McDaniels led the Lady Bucs in scoring with 15 points while Currence had 13 and Abel 10.

Jamie Riggs had a game-high 22 points for South Allegheny.

Buckhannon-Upshur will return to action Tuesday hosting North Marion.

The game will tip at 7:30 p.m.
