Lady Bucs create early hole for themselves and fall on the road at No. 7 Parkersburg South, 71-37

PARKERSBURG – The Buckhannon-Upshur Lady Bucs once again didn’t give themselves a chance for a win against the Class AAAA No. 7 Parkersburg South Patriots in a 71-37 setback Saturday night.

The Lady Bucs turned the ball over on their first five possessions, went down by a 21-4 score and was never in the contest with the Patriots. B-U had 27 turnovers for the game.

Parkersburg South raced out to an 8-0 lead before Harley Dean put the Lady Bucs on the board with a layup.

A 7-0 run put Parkersburg South up 15-2 before a Makenzie Egress short jumper made it a 15-4 contest.

Down 25-6, the Lay Bucs rattled off the last six points of the quarter getting baskets from Kyndal Davis, Alyssa Abel and Dean.

That left the Lady Bucs down 25-12 going into the second quarter.

B-U managed just three field goals in the second quarter and trailed at the intermission by a 45-20 score.

Buckhannon-Upshur put in just two field goals, to go along with four free throws in the third quarter, and trailed heading into the final eight minutes by a 61-27 score.

The final quarter saw the Lady Bucs and Patriots battle to a 10-10 tie.

Grace Shamblin led Parkersburg South with 23 points while Carly Schaffer contributed 12.

Parkersburg South improved to 14-6 on the year.

Dean paced the B-U offense with a team-high 13 points while yanking down five rebounds. Abel added 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds.

B-U dropped to 3-15 overall with two games remaining in the regular season.

They will visit Fairmont Senior Tuesday for a 7 p.m. outing then close out at home on Wednesday with Morgantown at 7:30 p.m.
