Lady Buc lacrosse team comes up short in title game against Fairmont Senior

ELKINS – There was one blemish on the record of the Buckhannon-Upshur Lady Buc lacrosse team as they made their way to the WVSLA state championship game against the Fairmont Senior Polar Bears Saturday evening at Davis & Elkins College.

And that was a setback to those Polar Bears back on April 14 by a 14-7 score.

Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Jamie Greene was hoping to return the favor to the Polar Bears but it wasn’t meant to be for his Lady Bucs as they dropped a 17-4 decision.

Fairmont Senior took a quick 2-0 lead and was up 3-0 before Reese Hutson put the Lady Bucs on the scoreboard making it a 3-1 contest, but Fairmont Senior closed out the opening half with six unanswered goals for a 9-1 lead at the intermission.

The Polar Bears started the second half with five straight goals for a 14-1 advantage before Miranda Greene put in back-to-back goals making it a 14-3 contest.

Greene would add one more goal but the Lady Bucs fell by a 17-4 score.

Senior Gaidan Adams led the squad in ground balls with 10. Haylea Crihfield and Emma Corder shared time in the net as Crihfield made 12 saves and Corder turned away five shots.

The title was the third in a row for the Polar Bears and the program’s ninth overall. Fairmont Senior’s Chloe Travelstead was named the game’s MVP.
