Lacrosse Lady ‘Cats tumble at Davis & Elkins, 22-9

ELKINS, W.Va. – The West Virginia Wesleyan (2-5, 0-2) lacrosse team fell on the road to Davis & Elkins (4-5, 1-1) on Saturday afternoon at Nuttall Field.
 
WVWC Leaders
Isabella Verona ripped six goals and scooped up a ground ball. Makenzi Lewellyn threw in a pair of goals. Kaitlynn Canby rounded out the scoring for the Lady ‘Cats. Adely Trujillo-Gonzalez passed an assist. Lewellyn, Canby and Tiffany Smith collected two ground balls each. Maggie Wroe made 10 saves.
 
Davis & Elkins Leaders
Emily Smith led all scorers with seven goals. Ari Hinton and Mikaela Vento dished out four assists. Marissa Cuevas collected four ground balls and made 14 saves.
 
Inside the First Half
Lewellyn scored 22 seconds into the game and put WVWC ahead. The Senators responded with nine straight goals and built a 9-1 lead with 6:10 in the second quarter. Trujillo-Gonzalez founded Canby for a goal that gave the Lady ‘Cats their second goal of the game. Verona scored her first goal of the game with 1:36 left in the first half. The home team had a 12-3 advantage at the break.
 
Inside the Second Half
Verona opened up the scoring in the second half with a goal at the 14:19 mark in the third quarter. The freshman attacker tallied her third goal with 12:39 in the third quarter. Verona scored her third goal of the third quarter with 2:50 remaining. The New Carrollton, Md., native scored the Lady ‘Cats fourth straight goal to open the fourth quarter. Lewellyn scored her second goal with 8:33 in the fourth. D&E took the game 22-9.
