Lacrosse Lady ‘Cats lose at home to Senators, 16-3

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – The West Virginia Wesleyan women’s lacrosse team lost at home Saturday afternoon to Davis & Elkins 16-3. The Lady Bobcats got off 20 shots and forced the Senators into 15 turnovers in the loss.

The Senators got on the board to make it 1-0 within the first minute of action. After being held scoreless for over eight minutes, D&E scored two goals in just nine seconds. Wesleyan answered with a pair of their own goals as Gaidian Adams and Raveena Navalgund went back-to-back to trail 3-2. Davis & Elkins scored once more before the first quarter ended, leading 4-2 after one.

D&E controlled most of the second quarter, netting six unanswered goals to go up by eight. It wasn’t until Makenzi Lewellyn put another score up for Wesleyan late in the quarter, trimming the Senator lead to 10-3 going into halftime.

WVWC outshot Davis & Elkins in the third quarter, getting off eight shots to their six. The Senators were able to turn their shots into goals, netting three goals to jump up 13-3 after three quarters of play. Davis & Elkins scored three goals once again in the fourth quarter, controlling almost every part of the game to pick up the 16-3 victory over the Lady Bobcats.

The Senators were led by Ari Hinton’s six goals and three assists. Hannah Lennon chimed in with three goals and an assist. Marris Cuevas had nine saves for D&E.

Lewellyn, Adams and Navalgund all netted a goal each for the Lady Bobcats. Gabriella Gomez had 11 saves on the day.
